Cheese Board Planning

In the kitchen, planning is being done on what to put on the board. Let’s see, I like different fruits, assorted nuts, sweets, and salty foods. Naturally, there has to be an assortment of cheeses and sliced meat. With those buttery crackers and other types in different shapes, you can use them to eat your cheese and meat. Yummy. Napkins, little forks, little plates, It all depends on what they have at the grocery store. I may need to adjust some items. I’ve got to have some things for the kids: juices. And if it’s for a birthday, I would do the normal decoration: birthday plates, napkins, cake, etc.

If you plan it out, you will end up with a cheese and charcuterie board. That’s not only beautiful to look at with its textures and flavors; you will end up with a beautiful cheese board. And that’s beautiful to look at; you filled it with delicious cheeses.

TUCK IT

Let’s put out some meat, like prosciutto, salami, and any other type of meat your family likes. You can just put out some and put what’s left in the fridge until it needs to be refilled. Keep extra cheese too; my granddaughters like the cubed cheese and pepper jack. And with blue cheese, which is great with fruit, I place my cheese in the center. Meat alongside it, and fill in with crackers, nuts, and fruit. And that’s it.

FILL IN

Use some fruit and nuts to fill in any open space on your charcuterie board.

CHEESE

Try a few wedges of creamy cheese and bite-sized or sliced cheese to give you a few choices.

CRACKERS

I like crackers that vary in shape and flavor. Use enough crackers to fill in the spaces. And add more later, if needed.

MEAT

Use what meat your family likes; some may like turkey, salami, or prosciutto. I sometimes roll them up. You may find a different type of meat if you look hard enough.

OTHER FILL-INS

Some things I have used before are cherry tomatoes and pickles. I like olives, big or small, black or green.

CLASSIC FILL-INS

I use seedless fruit; I have small children around, and they may get choked. And I worry too much, I guess. I use dates and take out seeds; dried fruit is good.

CHEESE BOARD WINE PAIRINGS

I’ll let you know right up front that I like fine wine. I like it with pizza, with a burger, or with a bag of chips. I used to not worry about what wine I drank; I worried more about whether I could afford it. Well, that leads me to say that the cheap wine gave me migraine headaches. So now I believe in Fine Wines that don’t have preservatives added. Drink what you want, but I won’t have anything but fine wines. I get my wine delivered to my home each month; now I don’t have to go to the store. And I don’t worry if I’m going down for a few days with a bad headache. If you are interested, it will help you get fine wine delivered to your home too.

CHARDONNAY

You can’t go wrong with Chardonnay, a white wine. That is very refreshing, with fruit notes and a light acidity that will pair well with cheese.

PINOT NOIR

One of my favorites is Pinot Noir, a great bottle of red wine. It’s a good choice to pair with my cheese board. It has a fruity note with a smooth finish.

BUILD YOUR CHEESE BOARD

After coming home from the store, it’s time to get all your items out. Start to put it all together; it won’t take long.

PICK A BASE

If you have a wooden board, use it. Or if all you have is a cutting board or a sheet pan, use it. It doesn’t matter; it is the cheese and wine they want.

START BIG

Start with the big stuff, like cheese wedges or bowls of fruit or nuts put in the center. Then I leave space between the meat and the nuts. Fruit, crackers, and empty spots

STACK AND LINE

Always keep this in mind to make it easy to pick up the meat. And sliced cheese; line up or stack your crackers.
